The University of Michigan Health System (UMHS) is made up of the U-M Hospitals and Health Centers, the U-M Medical School, and the Michigan Health Corporation. UMHS is committed to providing excellence in patient care, medical education and research.
A Pandemic Planning Committee was created to address the unique issues associated with providing patient care during a pandemic. Members of the committee continue to work closely with the community and fellow hospitals to develop a standardized response plan for Southeast Michigan that follows the national Medical Emergency Management System (MEMS) model. Plan development includes cooperating with local, regional, state, and federal agencies. During a pandemic, our critical function will be to provide the safest and highest quality patient care to as many patients as possible. All non-critical services must be curtailed in order to meet the increased demand for patient services. Medical education and research will also be adjusted under such conditions.
